Start with the sofa
Measure overall width, depth, and height. Note removable feet, detachable backs, reclining hardware, sleeper mechanisms, and sectional connectors. A rough estimate is less useful than three actual dimensions.
Measure the route, not one door
Check the bedroom or living-room doorway, hallway width, stair turns, ceiling height over stairs, elevator opening, and the final exterior door. Record the smallest clearance and any place where the piece must rotate.
A practical checklist
Empty storage compartments. Remove loose cushions. Clear rugs, lamps, frames, and small tables from the route. Reserve parking close to the entrance when possible. Tell the pickup team about stairs, elevators, and long carries before arrival.
